Retreat Instructor Biography

"While I have felt the need to create all my my life, and have explored different avenues, the turning point came in 1995, when I discovered seed beads. Taking tiny glass beads and using various techniques to transform them into works of art is a medium that truly resonates with me. I explore and use other media as well and enjoy working with and combining a wide variety of materials. Beyond just making artwork, teaching others has been a fulfilling goal as well." - Melanie Doerman

Melanie has had her work published in Beadwork magazine, Belle Armoire Jewelry magazine, Quilting Arts magazine, and in the 2003 Bead Goes On Calendar.

"My inspiration for the necklace comes from the ladies of the south. I envisioned genteel belle’s known for their grace, hospitality and preservation of tradition. When I designed the necklace I wanted it to have an old world look to it that could represent the grace, elegance and style of the south. "

These oblong beads are connected to one another with long strands of seedbeads embellished with more pearls and crystals. The necklace has a fluid feel to it and drapes beautifully around the neck. The center piece of the necklace has floating round shaped beaded beads which match the color theme of the necklace. Hanging from these floating round bead beads is a large three dimensional diamond shaped pendant constructed with pearls and round crystals. The closure at the end of the necklace is a lovely flat button made up of seedbeads and pearls. A loop of beads slips over the button to secure the necklace around your neck."
