A unique twist on ladder stitch creates the double tiered half circle. The radiating points are tipped with a Swarovski crystal bi-cone and the graceful arrangement insures both a pleasing shape as well as plenty of neckline movement and sparkle. The center is a tiered group of this beautifully designed component which ends with a stunning faceted Swarvoski crystal. The rope necklace is made with right angle weave which supports the structure of the necklace as well as providing a simple backdrop for the design. The teardrop shape of the clasp adds an elegant touch to the closure.

This is an intermediate bead weaving course.  Students must be proficient in right angle weave and ladder stitch.

Undulating waves of beadwork are created with right angle weave shaped points. Each is connected to the next with points facing opposing directions. The join is raised which adds interesting texture and can be optionally beaded with 2mm crystals, size 11 seed beads, or 3mm crystals.

This is a great project for playing with color as the inside edge and surrounding color, along with the join are all opportunities for adding color. The back of this piece is as pretty as the front and the tab and snap closure insure you can wear it either side out.

This is an advanced right angle weave bead weaving course. Students must be adept at various right angle weave techniques.

    Retreat Instructor Biography

"While I have felt the need to create all my my life, and have explored different avenues, the turning point came in 1995, when I discovered seed beads.  Taking tiny glass beads and using various techniques to transform them into works of art is a medium that truly resonates with me. I explore and use other media as well and enjoy working with and combining a wide variety of materials.  Beyond just making artwork, teaching others has been a fulfilling goal as well." - Melanie Doerman

Melanie has had her work published in Beadwork magazine, Belle Armoire Jewelry magazine, Quilting Arts magazine, and in the 2003 Bead Goes On Calendar.

You can read more about Melanie and view samples of her work at her website, www.TheMagpie.com
