Image and Attitude Community Outreach Project:
Image and Attitude, based in Merchantville, serves women entering the workforce
for the first time or re-entering after an absence and who don’t have the
knowledge or the money to be properly attired for a job/job interview.
One of the organization's biggest needs is having the right jewelry to complete
an outfit.
NEEDED: Earrings, necklaces, bracelets and pins.
PREFERRED: Coordinating sets of jewelry, such as earrings, necklace and
bracelet or earrings, pin and bracelet.
STYLE: Conservative/appropriate for office work. Avoid overly flashy,
elaborate or funky styles. Clients are placed in a range of jobs from
maintenance to retail sales to mortgage companies.
COLORS: The women are fitted in suits or dresses. Colors are black, navy
and gray, jewel tones, white and pastels.
FINDINGS: Please use surgical steel, sterling silver or vermeil for
earring findings to prevent allergic reactions. Please use good-quality
materials because the donations are a reflection of the South Jersey Bead
Society. No memory wire or stretchy elastic.
SIZES: Necklaces should be 18 to 22 inches long. Most of their clients.
Another option is a 38- or 40-inch single strand that can be worn long or
doubled around the neck.
Bracelets should be 7 ½ to 8 ½ inches long. Bracelets that close with lobster
claw/spring ring and chain allow flexibility in sizing.
MATERIALS SUGGESTIONS: Gemstones in nuggets, rounds and chips. Pearls,
polished wood, crystals, glass rounds, round metal beads and polished chain
links are good choices.
IDEAS: Check the stores, catalogues or Web sites for Coldwater Creek,
Talbots, Ann Taylor and JC Penneys. Or walk through the Macy’s jewelry
department to get an idea of current styles.
If you have any concerns or questions about something you are making, you can
discuss it with any of the Board Members of the South Jersey Bead Society.
DEADLINE: OCTOBER 2007 BEAD SOCIETY MEETING: We will collect your
completed donations at the October meeting. Also, at the October meeting, we
will be making ID lanyards and eyeglass leashes to donate to the organization.
