Announcing the SJBS 2023 Annual Bead Retreat with Julia Pretl at the Malvern Retreat House!
SJBS is delighted to announce Julia Pretl as our 2023 Bead Retreat instructor.
Julia is a renowned bead artist, best known for her innovative, intricately patterned, multi-dimensional beaded boxes and vessels designs. Creative since early childhood, she studied graphic design and illustration at the Maryland Institute College of Art. Soon after, she discovered a passion for bread weaving, and even-tually combined these talents as a way to teach others through workshops, patterns, and her ever-popular books: Little Bead Boxes and Julia Pretl’s Big Book of Beadwork. New Venue: We’re also excited to announce a new venue Malvern Retreat House in the placid hills of Malvern PA. The well-kept grounds, facility cleanli-ness, spacious accommodations, very good food, and bucolic setting offer a memorable experience.
New Project: Little Castle Tower box is a new Master Class project for the SJBS Bead Retreat! It uses several new techniques, including the irregular hem of the parapet, and a double-sided (reversible) open-centered lid, which can also be worn as a pendant. It can also hold a flameless votive candle, which flickers through the 'windows' and lid!
New colorway!
Proficiency with Peyote stitch is all you need. Familiarity with beading boxes a plus, but not required.

Registration includes project instructions, weekend overnight accommodations, and five meals:

Earlybird Double room $440 (you must have a roommate confirmed before registering.)
* $100 deposit per person per room due by April15th
May 31st; balance of full payment due by June 15th.
Regular Registration after April 15th May 31st:**

Double room $490 (you must have a roommate confirmed before registering.)
