    Bead Embroidery Basics with Beth Bowman


    Beth Bowman is a long-time SJBS member and a past-president. Her original designs and skill in bead embroidery have won Beaders' Challenge awards.

    Bead embroidery is the process of stitching beads to fabric or other foundation material to embellish the surface. In this class, students will apply fundamental bead embroidery techniques to make a pendant.

    Learn how to: 

    •Affix a cabochon to foundation material

    •Make a beaded bezel frame around the cab

    •Use Back stitch to secure beads to the foundation material

    •Use Couch stitch a decorative element

    •Create decorative and functional edging

    •Attach beaded loops for hanging the pendant.

    Kits will be available for this class and include: 1- inch cabochon, 

    bead embroidery foundation material, ultrasuede backing material.

    Kit price is $10

    Cabochon will be available in several colors:

     This workshop is suitable for participants new to bead embroidery and  those with some experience.  

    Fee: $55 members; $85 non-members.

    Class size: Max. 12

    Jean Power is a multi award winning jewelry designer, writer and instructor based in London, England, who travels extensively teaching her designs. 

    Her work is inspired by geometry, form, color and the beads themselves. 

    World-renowned for bringing a unique modern twist to this ancient art form,

    Jean is the author of nine (9) books on beading and jewelry making, was a Beadwork Magazine Designer of the Year, served for 4 years as editor of a beading magazine, and is working on her tenth book, Geometric Beaded Vessels, to be released in 2019. 

     


    In this class students will use Peyote and Ladder Stitch to bead weave a striking and unique pendant/brooch that integrates sparkling crystal bicones among seed beads for a real WOW factor! The pendant is strung on an optional beaded chain designed to let the pendant stand out in all its glory. Students will learn how to create the geometric bezel setting for the crystal rivoli; combine stitches to create and connect components; integrate crystal bicones into the beadwork. 

    Level: Intermediate - comfortable with peyote stitch, ladder stitch and small beads

    Kits: N/A. Registrants will receive a Supply List with their confirmation email.

    In this class students will learn how to use geometric beading techniques to create a striking vessel that stands on its own beaded feet. The lid features a large crystal centerpiece and pearl highlights, incorporated into the beadwork.The class will cover all the techniques needed to make the vessel as well as how to bead variations. Students will learn how to create the geometric bezel setting for the crystal centerpiece, integrate accent beads into the beadwork, and bead variations of this design.   

    Level: Intermediate - comfortable with peyote stitch, and small beads

    Leslie Pope, or you may know her better as “Twisted Sistah”, has a passion for beads and fibers that she loves to share with others. As a fashion design major at Drexel University, she managed to work beads into most of her creations, including her senior design collection of beaded knitwear which won her the J.W. Smith Most Saleable Daywear Award.

    Leslie became Twisted Sistah when she opened her traveling/web-based bead business in 2002 and hasn’t looked back since. Her business is devoted to beads and fibers, and offers a wide range of seed beads, threads and supplies that support the creation of beaded wearable art. As Twisted Sistah, Leslie has exhibited and taught various classes up and down the East Coast.
